In the 1940s

  • 1942

    • Inaugurated Japan Management Association (JMA)

  • 1944

    • Started the Tanker Production Project with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

    • Started the Production Line Project with Toyota Motor Corporation

  • 1947

    • Achieved to reduce the building work period from 8 months to 3 months in the Tanker Project with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

    • Achieved to drastically shorten the setup time from several hours to less than 10 minutes in the Production Line Project with Toyota Motor Corporation. This project formed the basis for the Toyota Production System.

    • Held the first Production Technology Course (P Course) after the war

    • Held the first Business Professional Course (B Course)

  • 1949

    • Started a research project on QC (Quality Control)

    • Introduced a PM (Preventive Maintenance) system

    • Issued Diary Planner "Noritsu Techo"

In the 1950s

  • 1957

    • Held the first course targeting the executive, "Organization Management Course for Top Management"

    • Held the first IE (Industrial Engineering) Course

In the 1960s

  • 1960

    • Entered trade-fair business with the Maintenance Show

    • Established the EDP Institute (later became JMA Systems, Co.)

    • Established the Industry Research Center (later became JMA Research Institute, Inc.)

  • 1964

    • Launched the PM Award

    • Held the first Marketing Innovation Conference

  • 1966

    • Launched the ZD (Zero Defection) Integrated Services

    • Held the first Chemical Plant Show & Conference (the present INCHEM TOKYO)

  • 1968

    • Held the first Building Equipment Show & Conference and the first Material Management Show (later integrated to Logis-Tech Tokyo)

  • 1969

    • Established the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM)

In the 1970s

  • 1970

    • Held the first International Plant Management Conference

  • 1971

    • Held the first Japan-USA Marketing Symposium

    • Established the JMA Systems Corporation (JMAS)

  • 1972

    • Held the first International Hotel & Restaurant Show (later became Hoteres Japan)

    • Held the first Trilateral Management Symposium (Japan, Germany, USA)

  • 1974

    • Started the On-board Training Course with 400 participants

    • Started the IE-er Training Course

    • Held the first Conference for Corporate Training Planners (later became HRD JAPAN)

  • 1975

    • Held the first Housing Industry Conference

    • Held the first World Food Exhibition (later became FOODEX)

  • 1978

    • Held the first Hospital Equipment Exhibition (later became HOSPEX)

  • 1979

    • Started promoting distance learning at full scale

    • Launched Surveys on Imminent Corporate Management Challenges (continued to today)

    • Held the Japan Seminar in NY, co-sponsored with AMA (American Management Association)

In the 1980s

  • 1980

    • Established the JMA Consultants Inc. (JMAC)

    • Established the Japan Society for Technical Communication (JSTC)

  • 1981

    • Established the Japan Institute of Information Technology (JiIT)

  • 1982

    • Held the first Micro Motor Exhibition (later became MOTORTECH JAPAN)

    • Launched V-CAT assessment service

    • Held the Japan-US Marketing Summit in Tokyo

    • Held ICPO (International Conference on Productivity and Quality Optimization)

  • 1984

    • Launched QM (Quality Management) services promotion

    • Started promoting the notion of White-collar Productivity

    • Held a Japan-Germany chemical engineering symposium named the '84 Tokyo

    • Established the JMA Research Institute Inc. (JMAR)

  • 1985

    • Held the first Hotel Restaurant Show & Symposium and Kansai Food Exhibition

  • 1987

    • Launched the JMA Management Innovation Proposal with "Management of Global Optimization"

  • 1988

    • Established the JMA HRD Excellence Award

    • Held the R&D Management Global Conference

  • 1989

    • Established JMA Center Bangkok

In the 1990s

  • 1990

    • Launched JMA Management Institute (JMI) to provide a long-term training course for executive candidates

    • Held the first Management Innovation Global Conference

  • 1991

    • Held the first Management Innovation Global Conference in London, co-sponsoring with AMA and MCE (Management Center of Europe)

    • Established the JMA Management Center Inc. (JMAM)

  • 1992

    • Held a symposium on "Productivity of Time"

    • Held GCMI (Global Conference on Management Innovation) in San Francisco

  • 1994

    • Established JMA Quality Assurance Registration Center (JMAQA) and started ISO accreditation

    • Held the first International Logistics Exhibition (later became LOGIS-TECH TOKYO)

    • Introduced Techno-Frontier Week

  • 1995

    • Supported management improvement in Mie Prefecture Government and several other municipals

    • Co-sponsored Auto-parts Study Mission to China with JAMA (Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association), requested by the Government of China

  • 1998

    • FOODEX JAPAN authorized by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI)

    • JMA earned ISO19001 in exhibition planning and operation

    • Launched the first Research on Newly Appointed Directors

    • Held the first Electro Asia Symposium in Singapore

In the 2000s

  • 2000

    • Formed partnership with IoD (Institute of Directors, UK) and introduced "Company Direction Programme" and "IoD/JMA Diploma," the first certification program for directors in Japan

    • Held the first JMA Group Global Seminar in London (annual event continued to today)

  • 2001

    • Held the first World Business Leaders' Global Conference

  • 2002

    • Held the first Managing Business Risk International Symposium

    • Held the Top Management Conference in Tokyo in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of JMA

  • 2004

    • Held the first CSR Global Forum, co-sponsoring with the Caux Round Table

    • Launched the first Japanese Industry Executives' Committee in Shanghai

    • Launched the Japan CTO (Chief Technological Officer) Forum

    • Held the first RD & E INNOVATION Conference

    • Held the first ECO-MAnufacture, exhibition supporting environmental measures, energy measures and environmental management for the manufacturers

  • 2005

    • Held the first ISO22000 symposium in Japan

    • Started certification services about Food Security Management System (ISO22000)

    • Established JIPM Solutions Co., Ltd. (JIPM-S)

  • 2006

    • Established the GHG Certification Center (JMACC)

  • 2007

    • Launched the CPP (Certified Procurement Professional) Program

    • JMA Group earned ISO 14001

  • 2008

    • Held the first FOODEX GLOBAL CONFERENCE

    • Established the Taiichi Ohno Special Awards to commend front-line supervisors for their outstanding achievement

  • 2009

    • JMACC (the GHG Certification Center) became UN accredited CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) Operational Entity

    • Launched the CPE (Certified Production Engineer) Program

    • Launched the CPF (Certified Production Foreman) Program

    • Established the GOOD FACTORY AWARDS to commend excellent Japanese companies' factories for their achievement in management

    • Launched the Global Business Professional Course

    • Established the JMA Holdings Inc. (JMA-HD)

    • Established the KAIKA Awards to broadly disseminate best practices in human resources development, organizational development and social contribution activities

    • Announced JMA2012 Proposal For Management Innovation " Co-Evolution"

    • Launched the First Gourmet Beauty Grand-Prix at the FOODEX JAPAN, awarding the prize to companies and its food and beverage items selected by food and trend conscious women

    • JMAQA issued the first certification of ISO39001(RTSMS)Road Traffic Safety Management System

    • Established the ASIA Co-Evolution Center to support Japanese companies in business in Asia
